Access Statement for The Blue Palms
Introduction
Here at The Blue Palms we aim to offer a personal service tailored to the needs of the customer. The Blue Palms is a large old Victorian house which was converted into a hotel over 50 years ago and now offers quality 4 star Guest Accommodation (as rated by VisitBritain). There are 7 en suite rooms which are all situated on the first floor. We serve hot & cold snacks and drinks. We are situated in the West Cliff area of Bournemouth which is very close to the town centre but uphill from the main shops and beaches. The Blue Palms cannot be accessed on foot without walking up one of several fairly steep hills. There are a minimum of 5 steps(15cm high) up to the entrance which is built above ground level then 2 further steps (14cms high) into the house itself. With many doors being fairly narrow the house is not suitable for wheelchair users.

- The Blue Palms is at the top of a hill at the junction of 3 roads, all of which are fairly steep
- The main travel interchange is about 8-10 minutes away by taxi
- The nearest bus stop is about 5 minutes walk but hills cannot be avoided
- The airport is about 4.5 miles away. There is an hourly airport bus which drops off at the bus stop 5 minutes walk away
- We can book taxis including accessible ones
- We can also assist in arranging wheelchair hire
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

There is parking at the rear and side of the property. There is sufficient parking but guests may have to leave car keys to ensure no one is blocked
- We are happy to park cars if assistance needed
- Naturally we will assist guests with luggage
- The surface is flat and concrete/tarmac up to the entrance steps
- The minimum number of steps to get to the patio which leads to the entrance is 5 (15cms)
- The door bell is at waist height
Main Entrance

The minimum number of steps to get to the entrance is 5 with each step15 cms.
- There is a step (13cms) into the small entrance lobby then another step up (14cms) then a step down again into the Reception area
- The Front Door is kept locked but the bell is at waist height
- There is seating in the hallway
- The hall is fully carpeted
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc
- The Public areas (Dining Room and Guest Lounge) are all situated on the ground floor with level access
- Furniture can be moved as needed
- Dining Room chairs do not have arms
- There is a basic payphone in the lobby. There is a chair provided
Public Areas
- Lounge chairs and tables can be moved. No steps for access
- Teletext digital TV and DVD in lounge
- Breakfast served in the Dining Room which is on the ground floor with no steps for access. The lounge is also on the ground floor.
- We can provide menus in large print by prior arrangement. Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to provide them in braille
Public WCs
- Not available. all rooms are en suite
Dining Room
- Snacks and drinks served in the Dining Room, Lounge or outside in the patio. We are also happy to serve them in your room
- Flat access to the tables on the patio once outside but access to the garden involves a slightly uneven approach and a step down onto the lawn which is on a slight slope
- Breakfast is served in the Dining Room on the ground floor
- Menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement
Bedrooms
- There are no ground floor bedrooms. All bedrooms are on the first floor. There is a handrail on the stairs which are fully carpeted. Beds are divans of standard height (approximately 65cms)
- All rooms are fully carpeted. En suites have linoleum floors.
- TVs have remote controls
- The fire alarm is a loud continuous bell. Please let us know on arrival if you may need help in the event of an evacuation or if you think you may not hear the alarm.
Shower-room & WC Ensuite
- All rooms have en suites with walk in showers raised about 28cms above the floor
- No rooms have baths
- All en suites have linoleum floors
Additional Information
- The hotel is non-smoking but smoking is allowed outside
- We have no problems with mobile network coverage
- Free WiFi is available in all rooms and public areas
- Loud fire alarm. Owners will personally advise of any emergency evacuation where needed
- We will arrange appointments with a local Doctor if required
